XXI International Open Air Festival, Jazz at the Old Town starts on July 4th. This edition is marked by the participation of international stars, jazz discoveries and premiere concerts. We will welcome artists from the USA, Israel, Italy, Austria, Poland, Norway and Cuba. As always the program will be varied stylistically – we will hear mainstream, afro-cuban jazz, modern jazz, jazz- rock and fusion.
International Open Air Festival, Jazz at the Old Town, is one of the most popular and the biggest, considering the number of the public, jazz festivals in Poland. It is also an artistic representation of Warsaw in the summer, as well as a great attraction for music lovers and tourists from Poland and abroad. In over the 20 years of its existence, the festival had an impressive half a million of viewers of different age.
The festival is characterized by the original program – varied musical styles, international stars, premiere concerts and jazz discoveries.
During the previous festivals, Polish audience had a chance to enjoy for the first time such greats of the swing era like: Scott Hamilton, Duffy Jackson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, hear new discoveries of the American music scene: Alfredo Rodriguez Grace Kelly, Kyle Eastwood (Clint Eastwood’s son), Avishai Cohen, Hiromi.
Most outstanding Polish artists presented their premiere project, among those were: Tomasz Stańko, Michał Urbaniak, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Leszek Możdżer Włodek Pawlik.
In last editions we also presented international jazz stars like: Archie Sheep, David Murray, Richard Galliano, Dino Saluzzi, Bill Evans, Lee Konitz, Chico Freeman, Bobo Stenson, Kenny Wheeler, Tord Gustavsen, Yaron Herman, Marilyn Mazur, Danilo Rea, Jeff Lorber, Ernie Watts, Jasper Van Hof, Eric Marienthal, Enrico Pieranunzi, Jacky Terrasson Trio, Joey Calderazzo, Mike Stern, Bill Evans, Roy Hargrove.
The festival is present in most important national media, information about the festival was shown by BBC World and TV Deutche Welle, Das Erste made a documentary about the event.

Jazz Top. Bass virtuoso, awarded Grammy four times, who belongs to a group of most respected and valued musicians. Performed and recorded with many musical legends like: McCoy Tyner, James Brown, Ray Brown, Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Sting, Paul McCartney.
The gigants of the jazz world – bass maestro - one of the most outstanding musicians in the jazz history, guitar virtuoso, four times nominated to the Grammy, best pianist in his generation and the legend of jazz percussion, recipient of six Grammy awards - will perform for the first time in Poland!
Proclaimed „the piano genius”. For five years a member of famous Avishai Cohen Trio. Since 2010 leads his own group with Jorge Roeder – a Peruvian bass player and Ziv Ravitz – an Israeli drummer. They get the audiences admiration and the critics acclaim playing all over the world. Performed with Chick Corea, Esperanza Spalding and Diana Krall.
One of the most creative and interesting Polish jazz musicians. Pianist and a composer of modern, electronic music for film and theatre. Known and respected as a great improviser and a leader of many projects, concerts, even shows with electronic sounds. Worked with many Polish and foreign musicians.
Italian great, one of the best trumpeters of the international fame. Awarded prestigious prizes like: Best New Talent Musica Jazz, Jazz Top. Played with: Randy Brecker, Charlie Haden, Steve Coleman. He has an impeccable technique and an unique, very personal sound.
A Premiere concert in Poland. Two years ago, most outstanding Austrian musicians : Klaus, Johannes and Stephen Dickbauer formed a group – Dickbauer Collective. Last year their album “ Mosquito Warrior” was performed for the first time at a Viennese club Porgy and Bess. They play their own compositions, in which there is a synthesis of jazz, classical and folk music from all over the world. In the pieces we can also hear the echo of cooperation with Vienna Art Orchestra and Radio String Quartet Vienna.
Jazz Top. Most innovative and original jazz musicians in the music history. For many years involved with prestigious ECM. This famous Norwegian guitarist is known as one of the best European jazz composers, who made his mark in the way of thinking about composing for a guitar and improvising. With him we will hear a Danish trumpet virtuoso, arranger, producer and composer who gained worldwide popularity and the Grammy award thanks to, recorded with Miles Davis, “Aura“.
Jazz Top. Called „the jazz and world music magician”, is the mentor of modern afro-cuban jazz. Genious pianist, outstanding master of all percussion instruments, vocalist and Cuban composer is an attraction of many import ant festivals throughout the world. Seven times nominated to the Grammy, given BBC Radio Award - Jazz Journalists Association, Independent Music Award, Jazz Echo, which confirm his position of jazz creator.
